New York basketball jumped to the front of the Monday morning headlines when Shams Charania of The Athletic reported that the Nets and Kyrie Irving are at an “impasse” in contract negotiations, and the Knicks are a potential interested suitor.
But buried in that report was a seemingly more realistic scenario for the ‘Bockers, as Malcolm Brogdon is reportedly very much on the trading block.

Per Sharania, the Pacers are “seriously discussing trades centered on” Brogdon, and he lists the Knicks as one of the teams interested, who have the No. 11 pick in this year’s draft and could use it to acquire Brogdon.
The 29-year-old Brogdon would command far less cap space than Irving, and potentially far less of a headache, but of course, the talent level isn’t the same. Brogdon shot a career-worst 31.2 percent from downtown last season while shooting 45 percent overall from the field, averaging 19.1 points per game in just 36 games. His 2020-21 campaign was his best, shooting 39 percent from beyond the arc while averaging a career-high 21.2 points per game.
