Knicks held players-only meeting called by Julius Randle ahead of crucial road trip

As the struggling Knicks get set for a daunting road trip beginning this week in Utah, Newsday's Steve Popper says the team called a players-only meeting to "stress accountability" with the season already seemingly hanging in the balance.

The meeting, a dinner held in Utah after the team arrived following an embarrassing home loss to the Thunder on Sunday, was called by Julius Randle, who has been hearing heavy criticism from fans for the second year in a row for his defensive effort.

The defensive effort as a whole, especially when guarding the perimeter, has left a lot to be desired this season, especially on Sunday, when the Knicks set a franchise record with 48 points in the first quarter, and still lost in lopsided fashion.

Per Popper, players said the meaning was a "positive" one, and a bonding experience for the team.

The Nets did something similar earlier in the season, only for head coach Steve Nash to be fired shortly after, and Tom Thibodeau could see his seat heating up if things don't turn around for New York on this road trip.
