Tickets reached record highs for Madison Square Garden ahead of Steph Curry’s anticipated record-breaking 3-pointer in Tuesday night’s game against the Knicks.

That history was made before the midway point of the first quarter, when Curry hurried back behind the arc, took a pass and quickly flicked up a contested triple that went down and sparked a loud celebration from the MSG crowd, as the visiting Curry took the stoppage in time to receive congratulations from his teammates and acknowledge the standing ovation.

The Knicks players didn’t go up and congratulate Curry, the NBA’s new all-time 3-point king, during the stoppage, but made sure to after the game, which Curry’s Warriors won after pulling away in the fourth quarter.

For the slumping Knicks, even they had to acknowledge the historic achievement, even after being on the wrong side of it.

“It was dope,” Derrick Rose said. “History was made. Of course we were trying to stop it, but when he’s such an elite shooter like that, it’s kind of dope to be a part of when you think about the totality of it.”

Play was halted as soon as Curry’s 3-pointer went down, and he was handed the game ball by Golden State head coach Steve Kerr shortly after, while Ray Allen, the previous record holder, waited to congratulate Curry himself courtside.

“It’s part of the NBA,” Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau said. “I thought it was the right thing to do to recognize him. Steph is a classy guy. I had the opportunity to coach him at Team USA…it was the right thing to do.”

Julius Randle brought his son Kyden over to take a picture with Curry after the game and congratulate the new 3-point king, who has had his share of moments inside Madison Square Garden. After being selected by the Warriors just before the Knicks were on the clock over a decade ago, New York wishes Curry made history in a home uniform last night, but the moment still wasn’t lost on the current Knicks.

“Ended up breaking it in The Garden on the biggest stage,” Rose said. “It was meant to be.”
