Gio with Willie Colon: Knicks season feels like a movie where ending is already known

As the Knicks get set to embark on an extended road trip, they will start with a red-hot Lakers team armed with Luka Doncic on Thursday night.

It could be yet another barometer that fans and analysts will use to gauge what New York’s ceiling should be come playoff time, but Gio and Willie Colon agree that the Knicks’ fate seems like it’s already decided.

“We’re watching a movie, and we know how it’s gonna end,” Willie said. “With the Knicks, you’re like ‘This is it. it Doesn’t get any better than where we’re at right now.’”

What is that ceiling? Gio and Willie believe it’s likely another second-round exit, as the Knicks don’t seem like a team ready to compete with the Celtics in a seven-game series. And in a league like the NBA, there is not the same playoff parity as in other sports, so hoping for an upset and an improbable run seems like a lost cause.

“It’s sad,” Gio said. “There’s so many other sports where you get into the playoffs and you don’t know how it’s gonna go. we’ve seen it here with the Giants in 2007 and 2011. We saw it with the Jets making back-to-back AFC championship games…we saw it last year with the Mets, getting in on the last day of the season.

“But the NBA, we haven’t even seen this team in the playoffs…and it already feels like this.”
