Knicks to hire Pops Mensah-Bonsu as head of G League operations: report

The Knicks are set to replace President Obama’s brother-in-law with another former DC insider.

According to NBA insider Mike Vorkunov, the Knicks plan to hire Pops Mensah-Bonsu as their new president and director of G League operations:

Mensah-Bonsu went undrafted out of George Washington in 2006 and played nine professional seasons, including 61 games over parts of four years for the Mavericks, Spurs, Raptors, Rockets, and New Orleans Hornets. He retired in 2015 and became a scout for San Antonio, before going back to DC as the GM of the Capital City Go-Go, the Wizards’ G League team, in 2018.

In becoming the Westchester Knicks’ boss, Mensah-Bonsu will ostensibly succeed Craig Robinson, who left his role as Knicks VP of Player Development and G League Operations this past summer to become Executive Director of the National Association of Basketball Coaches.

Robinson, the former Oregon State head coach, is former First Lady Michelle Obama’s brother.
