Leon Rose: Mitchell Robinson 'work in progress,' may not be at full strength for training camp

Despite undergoing foot surgery back in late March, Knicks center Mitchell Robinson still won't be at full strength when New York begins training camp.

The 23-year-old dealt with injuries for much of last season, playing in just 31 games due to a shoulder injury and a foot fracture that cost him the final two months of the season, and while the Knicks were hopeful that he would be good to go by now, he is still a "work in progress," according to team president Leon Rose.

Rose, speaking for the first time since introducing Tom Thibodeau as head coach, said "We love Mitchell Robinson and look forward to seeing him play," but Robinson is an unrestricted free agent after this season, and the Knicks will likely need to see a strong sample size before mulling a potential contract extension.

As insurance for Robinson, the Knicks re-signed center Nerlens Noel to a three-year deal this past offseason.
