Julius Randle’s resurgent season has reportedly been capped off with the NBA’s Most Improved Player Award.
According to Shams Charania, Randle beat out fellow finalists Jerami Grant and Michael Porter Jr to claim the award after teammate Derrick Rose fell short of the league’s Sixth Man of the Year award. Randle, 26, was an All-Star for the first time in his seven-year career and played in 71 of 72 games, averaging 24.1 points per game, a career high.
Randle also nearly doubled his assist total from last season, averaging 6.0 per game compared to 3.1 each of the last two seasons. His 3-point percentage also jumped from 27.7 to 41.1 percent, as he became the face of the surprising Knicks, who earned the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference to clinch the franchise’s first playoff berth in eight years.
Randle signed a three-year deal with the Knicks in 2019.
