The Knicks have ruled RJ Barrett out for Thursday's game against the Warriors, and Barrett was limping around in a walking boot at New York's shootaround in San Francisco.
Head coach Tom Thibodeau said Barrett is day-to-day.
Barrett, after limping off the court in the final seconds of the fourth quarter with the Knicks down 17 on Tuesday night, was originally listed as doubtful for Thursday's game with a sprained ankle. Thibodeau told reporters after Tuesday's loss that he wanted to leave the starters in during that rout at the hands of the Nuggets because New York had cut the deficit to 13 and wanted to try and mount a comeback, but Barrett was still on the floor well after the comeback had clearly fallen short.
Barrett, averaging a career-high 18 points per game, has been surging since the calendar flipped to 2022, averaging 22.5 points per game while shooting 40 percent from downtown. In his last four games, he is averaging 25 points per game. His status for Saturday's game in Portland is now very much in doubt.
The 21-year-old has already missed time this year due to a bad stomach bug and a bout with COVID-19.
