Sal didn't talk down the Knicks win over the Cavaliers on Sunday night, but he has not hid the fact that he doesn't see the team as one capable of winning the Eastern Conference this season.
Sal has mainly listed injuries and a likely compromised Julius Randle as reasons for his scepticism, but he is adding another concern to the list: the head coach.
"I still have question marks about Thibs," Sal said. "I like him, he's done a nice job here, but he hasn't proven himself in the playoffs as well. So while I look at this team and the hurdles they have to overcome…Thibs also has to prove himself in the postseason.
"I have reservations about Thibodeau as well."
Sal has his concerns about the team's durability come playoff time given Thibodeau's demanding workload, but also isn't sure how Thibodeau will respond in the postseason when other teams are now putting in the same amount of intensity.
"Thibs teams go hard all year long," Sal said. "What about when other teams turn it up a notch?"
