Knicks fans were heartbroken after watching their team collapse in historic fashion to Luka Doncic and the Mavericks on Tuesday night.
Well, almost all Knicks fans.
Sal Licata didn’t seem to devastated when reliving the game with Jerry Recco on Wednesday morning, as his reaction to a loss after holding a nine-point lead with 34 seconds left was basically, ‘So what?’
“OK, it happens…the Knicks weren’t expected to win the game,” Sal said.
“I guess my point is, it’s a regular season loss. So what? What’s the big difference? Yeah, in the moment it sucks, but going in, no Brunson, RJ Barrett gets hurt almost immediately. Nobody expected the Knicks to win.
“What’s frustrating is they won eight in a row, they gave you some hope, they make you think they’re gonna be a good team, and then they lose four in a row.”
Jerry noted that nearly 14,000 NBA teams in the last 20 seasons had faced a deficit like the one Dallas did on Tuesday, and every single one of them had lost before Tuesday night. Still, Sal isn’t losing any sleep over it.
“I don’t care if it’s 15,000 teams,” Sal said. “They didn’t get the job done. So what? The Knicks aren’t that good.
“To make a big deal like, ‘Oh the Knicks ripping our hearts out.’ In the big scheme of things, it’s a loss to a team you weren’t expected to beat anyway. I’m not gonna go nuts as if this is some crushing defeat that ruins the Knicks season.”
