Boomer & Gio: Will Knicks contend for title during Jalen Brunson's tenure?

Jalen Brunson put together another All-Star worthy performance together in Tuesday's comeback win over the Mavericks, shooting 9-for-13 to finish with 25 points.

Brunson is currently averaging a career-high 23.2 points per game, posting the most efficient 3-point shooting numbers of his career, and giving the Knicks stability at the point guard position that has not been seen in decades.

With Brunson in just the first year of a four-year deal, Boomer posed the question to Gio: will the Knicks be able to compete for a title during Brunson's tenure in New York?

For Gio, it all depends on who the Knicks can get to pair with Brunson.

"I need to know who the next guy is," Gio said. "He's not gonna be able to do it on his own…they're gonna need to get a legitimate, perennial All-Star in his 20s that they can pair with Jalen Brunson, and then yes, he can."

The Knicks would still need to do a lot of improving to become a team competing for a championship, as they are still an average squad, even with Brunson shining. But Boomer says the team is in good hands when a player like Brunson is running the offense.

"That guy is tough. He's one tough guy," Boomer said. "This is the best point guard we've had in how long?

"It's actually fun to watch him play. It's always in motion. The team is in motion when he has the ball. There's fluidity. Nobody's looking at Julius Randle just standing there dribbling the ball with time going off the shot clock, and taking a fallaway jumper and clanking it off the rim."
