Lawrence Tynes gives Danielle McCartan's field goal 'a nine out of 10'

Craig Carton was good from 50, Marc Malusis was good on three of five, and Evan Roberts…well, he just wasn’t good at all.

Danielle McCartan’s entry in the WFAN field goal kicking contest conceived by Craiggy, though? That one got some high praise on Sunday morning.

“As I look at this kick, everything about it looks NFL ready!” two-time Giants Super Bowl kicker Lawrence Tynes crowed in an appearance on McCartan After Midnight. “That’s a pretty damn good kick!”

Tynes even gave it a little breakdown from a kicker’s perspective.

“The rotation is good, the ball is true, it’s high – you have to get it over the line, I don’t want to see anyone kicking these kicks 10 feet off the ground, because there’s no chance you’d ever make it,” Tynes said. “Add in the elements, and the difficulty is a 10. It’s borderline Tynes in Green Bay, NFC Championship level! It’s even got a little draw to it.”

Tynes gave the kick a score of eight overall on first look, but a second gander jacked it up to a nine, kept from perfection by one big part of the effort.

You’ve got a tee; you don’t do that in the NFL, that’s a high school thing,” Tynes said. “Get that thing on the ground and maybe we’ve got something!”

No chance, unfortunately, that Danielle will unseat Graham Gano anytime soon – a joke even Craig made in his initial series of Tweets was impossible for him too – but if you ask Tynes, there’s no shot ANYONE is replacing Gano.

“During the first half of the season, he was our offense. They haven’t had to use him as much lately, but he was keeping us in games early. He’s a stud, and I think for sure he’ll be a Pro Bowler,” Tynes said. “He also kicks outside – kicking in the northeast is hard, and it gets tougher as the winter comes – but I hope they keep winning and get in the playoffs, because that helps.”

Back to some WFAN kicking, though – since McCartan challenged Tynes in her video, will LT accept?

“I think I’m partially accepting. Not 100 percent committing, though, because I haven’t kicked a football in a long time,” Tynes laughed. “I’m 42, and I didn’t want to tear a muscle or pop an ACL! It might pop up in your feed, but if I do it, you’ll get the shout out for sure.”

Whether it’s that kick or any other, though, Tynes is going righty, because there’s no ambidextrous kicking left in those 42-year-old legs.

“No way! In college I could hit good distances on both sides, but I haven’t worked out that side of my body in a while,” Tynes said. “I’m still in good shape, but if you’re not kicking every day, you can tear something in a hurry!”

And if and when he does accept the challenge, LT is looking at his Blue Rush podcast co-workers to get on the train next.

“I would want someone that’s not a kicker to do it, so I can have a laugh…I might ask Paul Schwartz, or Jake Brown, or Sarah McCrory,” he said. “I’d like to see one of those three do it!”

Tynes of course also talked a lot about Big Blue’s game with Arizona (a loss, by the time you read this) and their playoff chances, so check out his entire segment below!
