Drew Smith became the second Mets pitcher this season to be ejected following a sticky substance check, joining Max Scherzer on that unfortunate list after being tossed on Tuesday night.
Both Smith and Scherzer spoke out against the "arbitrary" nature of the rule on Tuesday, and Boomer and Gio joined them during Wednesday's show.
"The fact that there are different levels of stickiness with different levels of opinion, it's so subjective," Gio said. "Then there's an appeal, but there's no room for the suspension because it's automatic. The whole thing is stupid."
On top of the ruling itself, Boomer thought it was a little absurd that umpire Bill Miller was seemingly so animated to eject Smith after checking his hands before he was able to throw his first pitch.
"He is ripping it as he throws him out, man," Boomer said. "He just feels so proud to throw him out."
