After Wednesday's loss to the Astros, Buck Showalter expressed a similar refrain of optimism that the Mets were going to right the ship, and they were working too hard to not eventually see some desired results.
It was the same, tired song and dance, at least in Boomer's eyes.
"I'm a huge Buck Showalter fan, appreciate his history and legacy…but I am so sick and tired of hearing after every game, 'We just gotta play better,'" Boomer said. "Enough."
With more bad fundamentals on display in Wednesday's loss, from Pete Alonso running out of the baseline to two wild pitches in one inning, Boomer wants to see more accountability, not the same relentless optimism when there isn't much to justify that level of positivity.
"I know he doesn't want to hang anybody out to dry, but there have been moments where every single player on this team has made some screw-up that has cost the team a game," Boomer said. "Whether it be an error, getting tagged out at second base, bad baserunning, whatever you want to call it."
