Jacob deGrom is likely to opt out of his contract at the end of the season, and will surely be seeking big bucks on what could be the 34-year-old's final chance to cash in – more money, it's likely, than the $43 million AAV that the Mets gave Max Scherzer last offseason, as there are rumors that deGrom may be looking to become baseball's first pitcher to reach 50 million dollars a year.

The Mets finally halted their three-game skid with a win in Game 1 of Wednesday's doubleheader, but well before that, Boomer Esiason had a thought for deGrom as he preps to pitch Game 2: it's time to go out and show you're worth it.

"This is why deGrom is back now, and this is where guys like him need to go out and prove they're worth $50 million dollars," Boomer said. "I love ya kid, and I think you're one of the best pitchers I've ever seen, but you have to stay healthy and come up in big spots – and this is a big spot against one of the worst-hitting teams in baseball."

Boomer was actually so upset about the Mets' loss on Tuesday night that he had trouble sleeping after what he called a "puke-worthy performance."

"Honestly, I couldn't sleep last night; I was nauseated," Boomer said. "That was puke-worthy last night, and has been the last three games. This is it now, 26 games to go, and here we go: this is the race to the finish, and I don't want to hear any more about scheduling or who they're playing."
