The Yanks and Mets are set to face off in the Subway Series on Tuesday night, and Boomer says the two Big Apple foes could link up as trade partners before the deadline.
With the Yanks seemingly buyers, just two games out of a playoff spot, and the Mets seemingly falling out of the race, Boomer says Mark Canha should be on the Bombers’ radar.
“Mark Canha, Starling Marte, I don’t know about Jeff McNeil. I feel like a bunch of these guys could be going,” Boomer said of the Mets potentially selling. “I feel like Canha would fit the Yankees. They need a left fielder.”
Canha, a pending free agent, would give the Yanks some defensive stability in left field, but the Bombers also desperately need more offense, and Canha provides a league-average bat, batting .238 with six home runs on the season.
“I don’t think he’d move the needle for any teams,” Gio said. “He’d be an upgrade, for sure. They could do worse than that…players like that that Brian Cashman has identified to come in, those kind of players, Brian Cashman has been very good at bringing those kind of players in.”
