Boomer and Gio never felt like Yoshinobu Yamamoto seriously wanted to join the Mets, and Boomer believes the Japanese star was simply using Steve Cohen and company to get the payday he wanted from the team he wanted all along.
"Yamamoto used the Mets to get to a number," Boomer said. "I think Steve Cohen is trying. There's no question about it…part of me feels like this looks bad because Steve Cohen did go to Japan, had him out here in Connecticut, and maybe Yamamoto was thinking about it, how do we know? But I feel like to me, it was just about getting to a certain number to see if the Dodgers would match it. And if the Dodgers matched it, he was going there."
Boomer says it will take time for the Mets to build themselves up to the point where they are the desired landing spot, but for now, it's a bad look that they were seemingly used to drive up the price on other teams.
"This just looks bad," Boomer said. "It felt like he was using the Mets to get whatever he could extract out of the Dodgers."
