Brandon Nimmo: 'Didn't have to go anywhere' to find team ready to win a title

Brandon Nimmo put on his familiar Mets No. 9 jersey during Thursday's re-introductory press conference, representing a comfortable fit with the only franchise he has ever known.

"Feels good to put this jersey back on and know it's not coming off," Nimmo said.

For Nimmo, signing his eight-year deal to remain with the team that drafted him in the first round of the 2011 draft meant giving himself the best chance to win a title, while not having to go very far to do it.

"That's always a huge motivator in free agency - where can I go and compete for a World Series title?" Nimmo said. "The great part is, I didn't have to go anywhere."

Nimmo also came to realize that with Steve Cohen at the helm, the Mets will always be looking to spend and compete, while making his players feel at home in Queens.

"The Cohens have been nothing but family to us," Nimmo said. "To be honest, that's something harder to find throughout the league with ownership. The Cohen have been in it right from the beginning...that is a huge decision and something Chelsea and I talked about when we were making this decision."

Nimmo tested free agency, but in the end, he will likely end his career where it all began. Ownership and many other aspects of the franchise has changed since he came along, but the team on the back of Nimmo's baseball card will likely never change.

"To be able to start your career with someone, and finish your career with the same team," Nimmo said, "That's really, really special."
