Pete Alonso was hit by a pitch by Bryce Elder on Tuesday night, and the fans at Truist Park in Atlanta broke out in cheers as the Mets slugger took off his protective equipment and made his way to first base.

Many were critical of the fan response, as there were some cheers the last time Alonso was plunked in Atlanta, when a Charlie Morton pitch wound up sidelining Alonso for multiple days with a wrist injury, and sent the first baseman into a brutal, prolonged slump.

Morton's pitch to Alonso came not long after Alonso pleaded from the dugout for Elder to throw the same pitch again after taking him deep.

Elder’s pitch got Alonso in the back, but he brushed off any possibility of intent, and brushed off the response from the crowd.

“Boos are just the same as cheers on the road, that means you're doing something right,” Alonso said. “For me, it's fine. That's just away fans doing their job.

“Atlanta, it’s a great environment to play here…the fans are super involved.”
