BT: 'Don't tell me Max Scherzer wasn't trying to cheat'

Tiki and Tierney don’t blame the aging Max Scherzer for doing whatever he can to gain an edge, but they do believe that he was doing something illegal in those efforts.

Why? Because Scherzer is struggling with natural decline on the mound, and is trying to stay at a level he impressively maintained for years.

“He’s been around a long time,” BT said. “Not only has he thrown a lot of pitches, but he’s a max effort kind of guy. When he’s out there, he reaches into the deepest part of his body and mind to compete. That guy is a warrior.

“I don’t even care if he’s trying to find an edge. But let’s not be disingenuous here. There has been a pretty obvious decrease in velocity over the past five years…his fastball is not quite what it was, which means the soft stuff isn’t as effective, because the variance isn’t as great.”

With that in mind, BT isn’t buying the idea that Scherzer was just using rosin, and says the umpires clearly saw, and felt, something that warranted an ejection.

“I get it. You got an old warrior who is a Hall of Famer and is proud, looking for an edge, and the entire process is a joke because there is so much subjectivity,” BT said. “But don’t tell me that Max Scherzer wasn’t trying to cheat. Come on man.”
