BT ripped the Mets offseason to open Wednesday's show, amid reports from SNY's Andy Martino that the team has put a loose spending cap of $10 million on the rest of their offseason.
While BT understands the desire to build up the farm system and prepare for a more sustained winning product, if that is the case, he believes the Mets need to look into trading Pete Alonso to truly lean into a rebuild and beef up their prospect pool.
"I think 2025 is incredibly ambitious," BT said. "When I look at the trajectory of the Mets, if they're going to remain married to Stearns' vision - which I don't think is dumb - why would you re-sign Pete?
"By the time you guys get - and I'm talking Astros good, where they have young studs - by the time they get there, Pete is 33 or 34. Why wouldn't you trade him?"
Alonso is a free agent after next season, and BT believes the Mets could be out of the race by the trade deadline, so the best move may be to trade their homegrown star. Besides, he isn't very high on Alonso re-signing with the Mets anyway.
"I think it's more like 50/50," BT said.
