BT has been cold on the Mets' chances in 2024, but after reportedly signing J.D. Martinez to a one-year deal, he has changed his tone, and says fans should be "fired up" for the season.
"What the Mets have done is show adaptability," BT said. "They went to camp, they had their plan, they wanted to give Vientos a shot. Obviously what they saw, they didn't like, and got their guy at their price.
"Kind of a masterclass here by the New York Mets going into the season. I gotta be honest with you. I like it."
BT had long criticized the Mets for not addressing a clear area of need at DH, and now that they have by getting arguably the best bat left on the market, they deserve their praise, having finally given fans a reason to live in the here and now and not look ahead to 2025.
"For them to say a week before the start of the season, 'We gave it a shot. [Mark Vientos is] not the guy, we have a chance to get a stud DH. we're going for it,'" BT said. I think that's an impressive move by the Mets, not some wild inconsistency in their plan."
