BT opened Tuesday’s show declaring that the Mets’ top duo is not good enough to build a winner around, and even believes Francisco Lindor should abandon being a switch hitter.
Doubling down on his Lindor concerns, BT later added that, if Steve Cohen was given truth serum, he would regret signing Lindor to a long-term deal worth $341 million.
“If they could get out of it, do you think they would want to? I do,” BT said. “If they could trade him tomorrow and get rid of 60 percent of his remaining deal, you don’t think they would? I’d be open to it.”
Citing Lindor’s already declining numbers in comparison to his peak in Cleveland, and the diminished defensive value as he ages, BT says the Mets would be better off trading Lindor before his value drops any further, and perhaps free up more money to pursue free agents with real star potential.
“It’s a temporary respite from something that I ultimately think is gonna be a big issue for the baseball team,” BT said. “The amount of money, middle of the diamond…I’m not saying he’s a problem now defensively at all, but the money he’s making, you’re eventually gonna have to move him from the middle of the diamond.
“I think if Steve Cohen was very honest with everybody and was asked the question I just asked you, I think he would say ‘Yes, I’d be open to moving on,’ and I think Stearns would agree.”
