The Mets are now three games below .500 after Tuesday’s loss, marking the worst record Buck Showalter has held in his short stint as New York’s manager.
Given the expectations coming into the season and the current performance of the team, BT says that short stint will be nothing more unless the team turns it around in the next month.
“Clock’s ticking on Buck,” BT declared. “Buck Showalter has 30 days to fix this and get his team’s head out of its ass, or Buck has got to go.
“This team has been the exact opposite of last year. It’s broken. The glaring, nightly absence of fundamentals is utterly unacceptable.”
BT says the Mets calling up Mark Vientos on Wednesday morning is a step in the right direction, but it also means if Showalter can’t generate a spark from one of his promising prospects and awake a lifeless offense, it would only reinforce the fact that he needs to be replaced.
“It’s not personal. We all like Buck,” BT said. “But 30 days. If I’m the owner, I’m gonna give him 30 days, with the infusion of a young kid…I’m gonna give Buck one month. Give the kids and Buck a month, roll through four or five starts with Scherzer and Verlander, and if they can’t fix it, Buck Showalter must go.”
