Buck Showalter 'real proud' of Mets for battling in all three losses to Braves

The Mets have seemingly hit bottom, blowing another lead to the Braves, this time in walk-off fashion, allowing Atlanta to complete the sweep on Thursday night.

Still, New York's manager is trying to focus on the positives, even after a sixth straight loss that put his group 8.5 games behind the Braves in the NL East.

Asked how to keep the team's morale up after a crushing defeat, Showalter told reporters that the players are keeping the belief themselves already.

"I think tonight's game was an indication, and the second game here, and the first game," Showalter said. "Guys came here and competed as good as you wanted to see. We scored 10 runs tonight against one of the best pitchers in the league. I'm real proud of them. Lot of opportunities there to fold the tent, and these guys aren't gonna do that.

"I'm proud of them. I look at it as positives other than we just couldn't get outs. Used every arrow we had. Just couldn't get that last out."

Showalter pointed to a check swing by Orlando Arcia that wasn't ruled a swing, leading to the game-tying home run in the bottom of the ninth that set up Ozzie Albies' walk-off blast in the tenth.

"Got a check swing that was obviously a swing and didn't get called," Showalter said. "Just the way things are going.

"We scored 10 runs. I'm proud of that. Guys kept punching back. That's a positive."
