The Mets seem to be mainly standing pat this offseason, at least in terms of big moves after missing on Yoshinobu Yamamoto, as they look ahead to rebuilding under new president David Stearns.
But C-Mac doesn’t understand why the Mets still can’t sign veterans to short-term deals to make the team more competitive in 2024, which wouldn’t sacrifice the organization’s long-term outlook.
“There’s no reason that [Jordan] Montgomery, or a legitimate starter you can count on, can be part of this rotation without ruining the future plans,” C-Mac said. “There are things that make sense to avoid while you’re rebuilding, and things that make sense to add to try to bolster this team this year. I’m confused by the Mets plan.”
The Mets don’t seem confused about their team and its capability, with Stearns telling reporters that he expects the team to compete for a playoff spot in 2024. But what if they don’t? C-Mac doesn’t see much accountability coming if the Mets miss the postseason for a second straight season, even with Stearns’ declaration.
“They expect to have a team that competes,” C-Mac said. “They can expect it all they want. Let’s see if they actually hold themselves accountable if it doesn’t turn out that way. I doubt it.
“Nobody’s gonna hold him accountable…it’s absolute garbage. I think this Mets offseason has been absolute garbage.”
