The potential timeline for Carlos Carrasco to make his Mets debut continues to be pushed back.
The veteran righty had begun throwing off the slope last week, but manager Luis Rojas told reporters on Wednesday that Carrasco has stopped that activity, and is only throwing off flat ground while focusing on getting his injured hamstring right.
“He’s not throwing sides right now,” Rojas said. “We backed up from that. He’s playing catch, but the hamstring is the main focus. There is no re-injury or anything like that. We just need to put more strength in that hamstring before we keep ramping up his baseball and throwing progression. So that’s the task at hand right now.”
Carrasco went down with the hamstring injury during spring training as he was doing conditioning drills to work himself back from elbow soreness. But the timeline has continued to be stretched back further since late April, when he was throwing five innings in a simulated game and was hoping to be back with the team in a matter of weeks. Now, more than a month later, the timeline is even cloudier.
“He’s been throwing, but still doing the same program for his hamstring,” Rojas said. “That’s the main focus there. just strengthening him there to a point where he can be pushed a little more, and then we can start progressing him to that level.”
