Craig Carton broke some big news on Thursday's Carton & Roberts Show: apparently, according to Craig's sources, the Mets "are not done tinkering with their infield," and have engaged the Athletics about third baseman Matt Chapman.

Chapman, 27, is a two-time Gold Glove winner over four seasons in Oakland, and has slashed .255/.336/.503 with 84 home runs. He is first-time arbitration eligible this year and will make $6.49 million, but he would be under team control through 2023 wherever he goes.

The Mets currently have J.D. Davis penciled in at the hot corner for 2021. Davis has three more years of team control beyond 2021, will make just $2.1 million this year, and has slashed .268/.346/.448 in parts of four MLB seasons, but metrics regard him as a negative defender at third base (.953 fielding percentage and -19 DRS, per Baseball Reference).
