Chicago Cubs sign ex-Mets OF Jake Marisnick to one-year deal

The Mets and Cubs have, ostensibly, swapped fourth outfielders, as Chicago is reportedly signing Jake Marisnick to a one-year deal with an option for 2022.

Per RADIO.COM Sports MLB insider Jon Heyman, Marisnick's deal is $1 million plus $500K in incentive this year, with a $4 million mutual option (with a $500K buyout) for 2022.

Marisnick, who turns 30 on March 30, spent six seasons in Houston before being dealt to the Mets in December 2019. Injuries limited him to just 16 games, where he went 11-for-33, but he is a career .229 hitter who is well-regarded for his defense.

The Mets, after losing Marisnick to free agency, officially announced Wednesday that they signed former Cubs center fielder Albert Almora Jr. to a one-year deal with similar parameters ($1.25 million base with $300K in incentives).
