Darin Ruf went right back to mashing lefties in first game with Giants after Mets failure

Darin Ruf's first game back with the Giants went better than nearly any game he had during his failed Mets tenure.

Having been added to the major league roster just hours before Wednesday night's game, Ruf ripped an RBI double to deep left center in his first at-bat, a drive off Clayton Kershaw that would have left the yard had it been hit at Citi Field.

Ruf added a single to go 2-for-4 on the night, an eventual 10-5 loss to the rival Dodgers.

For Ruf, it was a return to his bread and butter, demolishing left-handed pitching, as he had come to the Mets with a career OPS of nearly .900 against southpaws, and was expected to be a platoon alongside Daniel Vogelbach. But he struggled mightily after being traded from San Francisco before last year's trade deadline, and was let go after showing no signs of improvement in spring training.

The Giants brought him back on a minor league deal, and Ruf wasted to time showing he was feeling comfortable again being back in his familiar surroundings.
