After hearing David Stearns' comments on Wednesday, Keith says the new Mets president of baseball operations seems to be thumbing his nose at the fanbase when it comes to the team's spending plans.
"Stearns was very tongue-in-cheek, almost laughing at the fanbase like 'Yeah, I know you want to sign everybody,' but he's sitting in his office like 'This is my world now. These are my plans,'" Keith said. "You're getting the truth from your president of baseball operations…he's telling you it's gonna take time and smart decision making. Who wants to hear that?
"He's taking his time. He's not in a rush like you Mets fans. Steve Cohen told him to run the show…no more King Cohen. Call him King Stearns."
Keith says Cohen has clearly relinquished control to Stearns, who will operate without an emphasis on spending for the time being, and Mets fans will just have to hope that strategy changes next offseason.
"He's gonna run the show, at least at the start, as if he was in Milwaukee," Keith said. "Like a small-market operation, like a rebuild, and the Mets aren't rebuilding."
