Jacob deGrom has left the Mets, and Donovan Mitchell is heartbroken.

The diehard Mets fan (his dad works for the team and Mitchell is a New York native) was in the Cavaliers locker room at halftime of Friday’s game against the lowly Magic when he found out that his favorite team’s ace had signed with the Rangers, ending his career-long tenure with the Mets.

“I wasn’t even going to come out and finish the game,” Mitchell said, via Evan Dammarell of Right Down Euclid and Locked On Cavs. “I am hurt. I. AM.
HURT!”

Mitchell also joked to Dammarell that he was going to call deGrom and “cuss him out” over his decision to sign with Texas.

Plenty of Mets fans feel spurned by deGrom, while others were fine with saying goodbye to the consistent injury risk despite his otherworldly talent when healthy. Mitchell is clearly not in that latter category.
