Many Mets fans sounded off on Marcus Stroman’s animated celebrations during his eight strong innings against his former team on Wednesday night, and some Mets players even reportedly expressed disdain over Stroman’s antics.
In response to that frustration, Evan says everybody should just take a look in the mirror.
“This always pisses me off,” Evan said. “I get it, some Mets fans are never gonna like Marcus Stroman. Marcus Stroman showed up last night. He delivered last night. If you’re mad about anything as a Met fan, don’t be a sore loser baby who is angry at the guy who did his job. Be mad at the manager and this offense, which went to Chicago on a winning streak, and has managed four runs…that’s the anger.
“Why would I have an issue with a guy who went out and did his job? To my fellow Mets fans who may be hypocrites, and I guess some Mets in the locker room: Francisco Alvarez hit a home run over the weekend that tied a game up, and he jumped up in the air like crazy, and we all loved it. Pete Alonso hit a game-tying grand slam and basically did a 360 and dropped his helmet, and we loved it.”
Stroman turned towards the Mets dugout after getting an inning-ending double play to conclude his eighth inning of work, yelling and pounding his chest as he made his way off the field. Evan had no problem with it, and any Mets fan (or player) who did is contradicting themselves.
“It’s OK in baseball to show emotion,” Evan said. “We can’t be hypocrites about it and only like it when our team does it. What are we doing?”
