"The most eloquent thing I can say about this is it sucks. It's no one's fault, but it sucks."

Sadly, that was Evan Roberts' "we just can't have nice things" response to the news that Jacob deGrom has a stress reaction in his shoulder and will be shut down for at least four weeks, likely to miss significant time this season.

Evan had been banned from Twitter (by Craig & Tommy Lugauer, not Twitter) until the news broke, which may or may not have made is worse, but once it did come out, discussion of the injury and its aftermath became a big part of the remainder of the show and clouded Evan's mood (on the eve of Jett's first day of Little League, no less).

However, Craig, ever the optimist, and a caller tried to give Evan two silver linings to the situation: Craig's was that deGrom is less likely to opt out of his contract due to the issue, and the caller's was that at least Max Scherzer's first start as a Met will be on TV and not Apple TV+.

Probably didn't help Evan, or any other Mets fan, much, but the good news, it seems, is that nothing is structurally wrong, as GM Billy Eppler said to the media shortly after (and Carton & Roberts aired):

"Jake's disappointed, we're disappointed...everyone is sharing in it, no one is immune to that," Eppler said. "But, I think the good news is there's nothing structurally wrong. We are dealing with a bone issue, and they calcify. The healing characteristics will take care of themselves, and I think that's a positive we walk away with."
