Keith: This feels like last 'down year' for Mets for foreseeable future

The Mets are in a period of transition, but with the hiring of David Stearns, a revamped farm system, and Steve Cohen's checkbook, Keith believes things will turn around in a hurry in Queens.

Not to mention the roster already has some established star talent in the likes of Pete Alonso, Francisco Lindor, and Kodai Senga.

"You just gotta fill in the blanks a little bit. I know Steve Cohen will go out and shop and buy some players," Keith said. "I do think the Mets will be competitive next year. I think this will potentially be the last down year for the Mets, with David Stearns coming in, what they're trying to build, and the young prospects that they have, this could be the start of the Mets being a perennial contender year after year.

The bullpen was a big issue this season, and there are major questions for the rotation outside of Senga and Jose Quintana, but Keith believes that will be where the Cohen/Stearns duo shines this winter.

"You can add some pitchers in the offseason, and suddenly, the rotation doesn't look that bad," Keith said. "Then you shore up the bullpen and get Edwin Diaz back, there's some light at the end of the tunnel."
