The Mets enter the 2024 season with notably lower expectations than last season, but Francisco Lindor doesn't believe that means the team isn't thinking about a deep playoff run.
Look no further than the two teams that were in the World Series last year.
"I want to win. It goes back to what happens every single year," Lindor said. "Nobody was expecting the Diamondbacks, but I'm sure they were. Probably not too many people were expecting the Rangers either, but I'm sure they were as well…it's not about the expectations outside. It's what you believe and what you think you can do."
Arizona reached the Fall Classic despite winning less than 90 regular season games, so Lindor doesn't see why the Mets can't have championship aspirations despite selling at the trade deadline last year before finishing with a sub-.500 record.
And while many have criticized the Mets for making marginal moves this winter after a disastrous 2023 campaign, Lindor praised new president of baseball operations David Stearns and the moves he has made in his first offseason with the team.
"I like them. I feel that Stearns did a really good job," Lindor said. "They had plan and an approach and executed it. I feel like they still think a couple of pieces from what I keep on hearing from Stearns. He has said in the media a couple times already that there might be one or two things.
"I'm fully on board and I respect what they're doing. I'm here to win and I keep on seeing good things, so we're headed in that direction."
