After a loss to the Nationals on May 13, Francisco Lindor's batting average for the season dropped to .217 after an 0-for-4 day at the plate.
It was far from what the Mets had expected from their $341 million man, who was one of the game's most valuable players a year before, and had represented the team's struggles up to that point.
Fast forward to Sunday night, and New York has won five in a row, including six of its last eight games, and Lindor has looked much more like the hitter that made him a four-time All-Star.
Over those last eight contests, Lindor has logged multi-hit games in four of them, including two of the last three to help the Mets sweep Lindor's former team in the Guardians. Lindor smacked a home run on Sunday night and delivered a walk-off single in Friday's series opener, as he continues to feel more comfortable at the plate.
"I've been able to put good swings on the baseball," Lindor said. "Before, I was swinging, and the swing wasn't there. I swung at some bad pitches, wasn't controlling the at-bats, but the swing, little by little, it's coming."
Over his last eight games, Lindor is batting .314 with an .819 OPS, a thrilling sign for a Mets team that was in desperate need of their established stars to return to form.
Now, the hope is that this weekend's resurgence is a springboard to a season that looks more like what Lindor was able to produce in 2022.
"It's a long journey," Lindor said. "But gotta just stay the course and keep walking the line."
