Gelb: Mets should move on from Buck Showalter after this season

Zach Gelb says there is a difference between what should happen and what will happen, but if he were asked what the Mets should do after this season, it would be to get a new manager.

Buck Showalter's honeymoon phase ended this year, following up a 101-win campaign with one of the most disappointing seasons in franchise history, and Zach says it's time for a new voice in the clubhouse.

"Buck is well respected in the game," Zach said. "Last year, he could do no wrong until the last few weeks of the season.

"Buck has been way too loyal with some of these veterans…I look at Buck, I kind of feel as if he will be back, but I don't think he should be back."

The Mets have already begun to make changes in the front office, and while Zach believes that should continue with a managerial change, he doesn't believe it ultimately will.

"Buck is not gonna last long here in New York with the Mets," Zach said. "You've seen this year, the appeal of Buck Showalter with the Mets has worn off…I would usher in a new era.

"I know there have been changes to other parts of the organization, but the big head honchos there are, in my opinion, not going to be rid of."
