Boomer and Gio opened Friday’s show in disbelief that they now live in a world where the Mets are selling pieces off to the Marlins and their typically bottom-tier payroll.
It was a reality that Gio found particularly hard to stomach.
“If I were to tell you that the Mets were selling off pieces to the MARLINS, who were still in it a couple days before the trade deadline, you would have told me I was nuts if I told you that before the season,” Gio said. “They just sent their closer to the Marlins. How embarrassing is that? The Marlins…for the most part, are a joke. But they’ve been a thorn in the Mets’ side since forever. Now, they have this really good season, seemingly out of nowhere, and the Mets are one of the biggest jokes of the year.”
The Mets and their historic payroll becoming sellers at the deadline, and trading to the division rival Marlins of all places, is hard for Gio to wrap his head around.
“I know we were trending in this direction,” Gio said. “But those facts are quite amazing.”
