As Steve Cohen prepares to speak with reporters on Wednesday night before the Mets take on the Brewers, Boomer and Gio agree that they don't expect much fireworks from the owner in terms of calling out his team, coaching staff, or front office.
But the fans rightfully expect some kind of emphatic message, as Gio says the Mets fanbase has responded to Cohen's historic spending spree with a large financial commitment of their own, and the team isn't living up to their end of the bargain.
"There are a lot of Met fans that bought in, both emotionally and financially into this team," Gio said. "There was a paid attendance of 34,000 in that Monday loss to the Brewers…everybody was fired up about the season they had last year and the offseason they were having."
Gio is not one of them, as he has "emotionally detached" himself from the team amid their prolonged struggles, and it will take a lot more than a win on Tuesday night to bring him back.
"Show me some sort of consistency," Gio said. "Even if they end up winning a game and a series here in Milwaukee…we need to see four, fix, six more wins in a row to think this team is alive."
