Keith Hernandez went viral during Wednesday’s Mets series finale in Miami after a hot mic caught him lamenting New York’s struggles at the plate.
As SNY came back from a commercial break, the TV analyst was heard saying “piss-poor hitting,” a clear sign of frustration in regards to the Mets lineup, which struggled to get anything going against the Marlins until the eighth inning.
That was when Pete Alonso worked a long at-bat and belted a game-tying three-run home run to dead center field, finally giving the Mets a jolt of offense, and it carried them to a win in extra innings to avoid another series loss to begin the season.
When Hernandez was lamenting the team’s lack of offense, things looked dire for a New York team that has been struggling to generate runs since Opening Day, but it has been Alonso providing the big blows, as he also hit a big grand slam in the team’s series opener against the Marlins back on Monday.
Safe to say Hernandez was feeling better about the team’s at-bats following Alonso’s dramatic home run.
