Wednesday was another hitless night for Daniel Vogelbach, who saw his batting average dip down to .203 after his 0-for-3 performance in what was the Mets fifth straight loss.
Boomer can't believe he is still watching Vogelbach post regularly in the New York lineup, and just wants to know what the organization is thinking.
"I don't know what Buck [Showalter] sees," Boomer said. "Do the analytics guys count strikeouts or double plays?
"Were sitting here watching Daniel Vogelbach absolutely come apart as a baseball player. I don't even know why he's in the lineup. There's nothing there…I would just leave Pham in there.
He can hit righties and lefties…he's a Major League Baseball player, and at least he's actually hitting home runs. I don't really know what Daniel Vogelbach is doing, or why he's even in uniform. It's a waste…he's not even a threat."
For Gio, the Mets/Vogelbach situation reminds him of several similar cases involving the franchise across town, especially in recent years.
"They have bigger problems, for sure…but it reminds me of the Yankees holding onto guys way too long because they feel like there's something there, but there's nothing there," Gio said. "I know Gary Sanchez is on a tear in San Diego, but they held onto Gary Sanchez too long. Aaron Hicks, they held onto too long. Greg Bird, they hung onto too long."
