The Yankees were getting thoroughly shut down by Jacob deGrom on Friday night, before an all-too-familiar hiccup arose for the Rangers ace.
DeGrom, while cruising through a shutout, allowed a single to Willie Calhoun and was seen wandering in front of the mound with his hand on his hip afterward, and the trainers eventually came out and removed him from the game. It marked the second time already this season that deGrom has left a start early, having departed earlier this month with wrist soreness in a start against the Royals.
Manager Bruce Bochy told reporters after the game that deGrom was experiencing forearm tightness, but stressed it was "precautionary" to remove him from the game.
DeGrom has missed extended time in recent years with various injuries, ultimately resulting in the Mets moving on from the ace, as deGrom went on to sign a five-year, $185 million deal with Texas this past offseason. Already, the Rangers have experienced what Mets fans know all too well from deGrom's time in New York: scattered injuries around dominant pitching.
