Jacob deGrom to have next MRI Monday: 'Everything's going real well'

Mets manager Buck Showalter had three pitching updates prior to Tuesday's doubleheader with the Giants, but the most promising of the bunch might have been the furthest away.

Jacob deGrom is set to undergo his next MRI next Monday, about 24 days into the four-week shutdown from throwing he was given after he was diagnosed with a stress reaction in his right scapula, and from the initial feedback of his time off, though, Showalter seems to think all is going "really well."

"I know everything's going real well, and they're happy with where he is right now," Showalter said. "I'm not saying he's ahead or behind, but he's doing well."

Showalter also said that the Mets' brass has potentially been discussing tinkering with the way deGrom pitches as he heads down the return trail. There has been wonder if deGrom's velocity spike has been a catalyst for all of his upper-body trouble, but whatever it may be, the team is looking to see if they can do anything from a mechanical standpoint to keep deGrom healthier.

"I do know they were talking about taking care of something else, maybe talking a little bit about some mechanical things to keep him healthy down the road," Buck said.
