Keith: Magical Mets season saw a lot of 'goalpost moving' from fanbase

After Keith McPherson took a call from a Mets fan claiming that his team had a better season than the Yankees, Keith shared his findings when it comes to Mets fandom after their team enjoyed an out-of-nowhere season that fell just two wins short of a pennant.

"It's a lot of goalpost moving," Keith said. "I remember all the talk of 'be careful what you wish for, you don't want to see us in the Subway Series, here we come.' It's a lot different on Nov. 5.

"Narrowly escaped the Braves. Narrowly escaped the Brewers, but forget all that."

Keith can't get behind the idea that one team that needed to clinch a playoff spot on the very last day of the regular season and lost in the NLCS had a better year than a team that finished with the best record in their league and actually won a pennant. But he understands that it comes with the territory of a fanbase that has been starved to see success.

"I was cracking up. You guys are reacting like you never had anything," Keith said. "Just winning that game to get to the postseason, it made me realize that the Met fan is not used to getting to the postseason, so you feel like you had the better season because of the joy you had.

"I get it, but you cannot put that next to the Yankees winning the division, getting the one seed, and getting to the World Series…that's very participation trophy-esque."
