Keith: Mets should take a 'flier' on Trevor Bauer

Trevor Bauer joined BT and Sal on Friday and voiced his openness to joining the Mets or Yankees this season as he attempts to make his MLB return, and Keith says the Mets should make a push for the former Cy Young winner.

“I just think the Yankees are going to try and avoid the headache of Trevor Bauer,” Keith said. “I do think the Mets should sign him. He’s already said he’s more familiar with the Mets. Someone is going to sign him in Major League Baseball…in theory, if it’s Mets or Yankees, I think it’s a better landing spot for the Mets for two reasons: he said he is more familiar with the Mets from dealing with them, and they have the money to blow for whatever it is. If it’s $8 million on a one-year deal, that’s whatever for Steve Cohen. And they’re not trying to win now.”

Bauer is still in the midst of a suit with another woman after settling another, but he has never been arrested or charged, and a team could take a chance on the 32-year-old in 2024, now that his 194-game suspension is over. Keith says the Mets would make more sense than the Yankees, who can’t afford more negative reactions from the fanbase after a disaster 82-game season.

“The Yankees are trying to win now. They’re trying to get fans back in the stadium,” Keith said. “They don’t want fans coming to the stadium with signs that say ‘Trevor Bauer is an abuser.’”
