Keith: Why is everyone writing the Mets off in 2024?

Keith has criticized the Mets offseason and their lack of big moves after a disastrous 2023 campaign, but that doesn’t mean he believes the team is destined for another awful showing in 2024.

In fact, he believes too many people are already writing the Mets off.

“I’m hearing all these people talk about how bad the Mets are gonna be, and I’m starting to get this suspicious feeling that they’re not gonna be that bad,” Keith said. “Lower the expectations a little bit. I think they can win another 75 games. I watched every Mets series in June and July…they found every way to lose a series. The bullpen was terrible. They couldn’t hit. What are the chances of them having that year again? It’s not gonna happen.”

Noting the return of arguably the best closer in baseball, one of the best shortstops in the league still in their prime, and one of the best power hitters in the game, Keith says the recipe is there for a bounceback showing this summer, and fans shouldn’t be surprised if it happens.

“We’re gonna write the Mets off?” Keith said. “They have some guys. Edwin Diaz is coming back. Francisco Lindor is in his prime. Pete Alonso is in a contract year...McNeil has to have a bounceback year.

“I know everybody expects them to be bums, but baseball doesn’t work like that.”
