LISTEN: Sal Licata and Mike Fliegelman look back on some Oliver Perez failures

Oliver Perez's old tagline as a Met was "uno, dos, adios," as in striking out a batter on three straight pitches.

Well, to Sal Licata, it's that last word that's most important, because Sal is not a very big fan of Perez, who announced that he will retire after playing 2022 in the Mexican League, not trying to return for a 20th season in MLB after 3 2/3 scoreless innings pitched for Cleveland last year.

See, for Sal, as much as Tom Glavine's meltdown in the final game of the 2007 season finished off an epic collapse, it was Perez's ineffective outing in the 160th game of the season where he allowed a two-run homer in the first, then hit consecutive batters with the bases loaded and two outs in the third inning, pushing a 2-1 Marlins lead to 4-1 in a game they eventually won 7-4.

"My biggest pet peeve in baseball is a pitcher who can't throw strikes. That is why I've hated Oliver Perez since Day 1," Sal said in his rant. "How come Oliver Perez doesn't get ripped to shreds for that embarrassing performance Friday night in the pivotal series?"

Producer Mike Fliegelman tried to figure it out vis-à-vis Glavine's past and Perez's success in 2006, but Sal shot back with Perez allowing a two-run homer in Game 7 of the 2006 NLCS shortly before Endy Chavez's ridiculous catch on Scott Rolen that's still a highlight 15 years later.

Fleegs then remembered how Ollie P was standoffish with fans at times, and he and Sal reminisced some old Mets issues – including an old WFAN memory back in the day involving Perez. Take a listen above for the latest Sal Licata rant!
