Luis Rojas likeliest MLB manager to be fired, per BetOnline

A large contingent of Mets fans would like to see Luis Rojas become the next MLB manager to be canned, as the "Fire Rojas" chants on Wednesday night clearly illustrated, and according to BetOnline, those fans may just get their wish.

The betting website lists Rojas as the most likely candidate to be next in line to lose their job at 5/2 odds, followed close behind by Toronto skipper Charlie Montoyo.

Rojas' Mets fell four games below .500 after Wednesday night's loss to the Giants, who own the league's best record. New York held a 2-1 lead in the seventh before Rojas pulled starter Taijuan Walker with two on and nobody out after just 74 pitches. Walker was in disbelief, as was the home crowd after Walker's replacement, Aaron Loup, surrendered a go-ahead double on his first pitch, prompting the "Fire Rojas" chants at Citi Field.

Rojas was originally seen as a Manager of the Year candidate when he helped the Mets hold on to first place in the NL East for three straight months despite an unprecedented wave of injuries that took out top pitchers like Jacob deGrom, and at one point, seven of the eight starting position players from the Opening Day lineup. But that euphoria has quickly vanished in the second half of the season, as the Mets have gone 2-10 so far in a crucial 13-game stretch that many considered would be the make-or-break point of the season.

Rojas said he heard the chants declaring he be fired, but didn't think anything of them.

The next likeliest managers on the list to be fired were Brandon Hyde of the Orioles and Jayce Tingler of the scuffling Padres. Joe Girardi of the Phillies, and formerly the Yankees, was sixth on the list at 9/1.
