With Max Scherzer still badly struggling, Boomer is getting very recent flashbacks of another aging star that came to New York and wound up flopping on the big stage.

“You know who it reminds me of? Patrick Kane,” Boomer said, still hurt by the future Hall of Famer’s complete no-show in the Rangers’ first-round loss to the Devils.

“This is what it reminds me of. I just want to kind of warn Aaron Rodgers, this is what happens…you come here, New York is known for signing guys late in their careers…and we’ve seen guys come through here left and right late in their careers, and just completely crap the bed.”

Brett Favre, Randy Johnson, Kevin Brown, the list goes on when it comes to past stars who couldn’t fight off aging, even under the bright lights of New York. Boomer is worried that Scherzer will be another victim of that trend.

“He was so off yesterday and looked so bad, that it is concerning,” Boomer said. “You sign the guy, he gets suspended for 10 games, he gets hurt, he gets lit up by the Braves and the Padres. You go back to last year, this has been an unmitigated disaster. It’s been very deflating.

“This is a guy who is gonna be a first-ballot Hall of Famer…but it shows you, you gotta be careful what you’re spending your money on. I know this is May, but I really hope I’m not saying this come August. I really do.”
